Coffees are described either by their country of origin, blend or level of roast. Each of these features gives a distinctive taste. Many gourmet coffees are unblended and named after their country of origin so they retain their distinctive varietal characteristics. For instance, Sumatran coffee is grown in regional Indonesia, while Kenya AA is the largest bean and best grade coffee from Kenya, and Colombian Supremo is the finest coffee from Colombia. Another interesting variation is the peaberry, the product of a coffee cherry that produces one, rather than two beans. This is rounder and smaller than typical beans.
Many coffee names are also based on the region where the coffee is grown, as in Colombian Popayan, or the height above sea level of the region, Costa Rican SHB. The grade or size of the beans are also used to identify coffees.
You will taste unique flavours between coffees from different countries, as well as different blends and varying levels of roast.
CADDIES brings you these hand-harvested coffees, grown by people who care, from Central and South America, East Africa, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, India and Indonesia, as well as the best from the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. |
