What is Fairtrade coffee?

The benefits of international coffee trade are not shared fairly by all. Many coffee producers and workers struggle to meet their basic needs. They endure long hours, low pay and poor living conditions.

Fairtrade provides a more equitable alternative by:

  • paying producers a fair price which is negotiated directly with the growers
  • paying a premium to be used to invest in projects that benefit families and the environment in their own community
  • creating direct and long term trading relationships between farmers and traders.

How does Fairtrade coffee compare with other coffees?

Caddies have always had a total commitment to quality. We always buy what we believe is the best quality coffee available at the time, and Fairtrade coffee is no different. You can be confident that your Fairtrade coffee is produced by growers who really care!

Will I pay more for Fairtrade coffee?

Yes, you will pay more for Fairtrade coffee because there's a small administrative charge to maintain the integrity of the system and Fairtrade coffee costs us a little more to buy. Therefore you can expect to pay a premium of about 10%, but you will know that the producers are being treated fairly because..."Everyone deserves a fair go!"
